Topic
Hartington class are learning about a topic called Through the Ages. They will explore everyday life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Children will learn about the three different periods of the Stone Age; Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic, and they will describe here these periods are different. Children will then explore how different materials are used for tools over time and how humans became less nomadic throughout the different periods of the prehistoric era.
Literacy
In literacy, children will be reading stories related to the Stone Age topic. Their writing will be based on the book Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura.
Science
In science, pupils will be learning about forces and magnets. They will explore what a force is and how forces can be contact (pushing and pulling), or non-contact (magnets). Children will conduct experiments with magnets and force meters to test theories. They will also learn about the magnetic fields and the magnetic Earth.
Maths
In maths, children will be learning about multiplication & division to start the term, then moving on to measuring lengths, perimeters, fractions, mass and capacity. Year 4 will also start to learn about decimals.
