Topic
This term our topic is Emperors and Empires. We will be exploring Roman life and how their invasions have impacted countries like Britain. Hartington class will learn about the Roman way of life, their culture, entertainment, the army and inventions. They will explore how Britain has changed after the Roman invasion and how this benefited Britain over time. Pupils will learn about individuals, such as Boudicca, who tried to stop the invasion. They will also explore the ruling of the Roman empire and how this changed over time.
Literacy
In literacy, children will be reading stories related to the Roman topic, such as The Leopard in the Golden Cage by Julia Edwards and Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit.
Science
For science, pupils will be covering Animal Nutrition and the Skeletal System. They will be exploring different animal diets and how humans maintain a balanced diet. Next, children will look at the effects of fatty foods on the human body. Hartington class will be learning about the human skeleton and how the joints and muscles support a human to move and be flexible.
Maths
In maths, children will be learning about addition and subtraction. They will be exchanging numbers between 10s, 100s and 1000s and will solve reasoning and problem-solving questions. Year 4 children will delve into area and how to calculate the area of shapes.
